KNI AGM Minutes held on 18 February 2010

Kenridge Neighbourhood initiative Annual General Meeting

Date & Time: 18th February 2010 at 19.00hrs
Location: Kenridge Primary School Hall



The following items were raised, discussed and where applicable voted on:-
  1. Welcome to all by Chairman
  2. Confirmation that those in attendance at the meeting represented a quorum
  3. Current status of the KNI outlined:-
    1. Now in it's 20th month of operation
    2. 443 patrol members
    3. 135 armed response members
    4. 2 patrol cars
    5. Dedicated patrols for our area @ R140pm
    6. Least expensive armed response organisation @ R120pm
    7. Patrol cars response time measured at less than 5 minutes
    8. Currently 2 cars for 443 houses, other companies provide 1 car per 500 - 1000 houses.
    9. Professional 24 hour control room
    10. Crime levels have significantly reduced
    11. Now struggling to obtain community support

  5. Mr Taki Amira of the Kenridge The Hills Ratepayers Association gave presented talk on what it takes to be a community.

  7. The financial status of the KNI was discussed as follows:-
    1. Non profit organisation run by volunteers
    2. Gross Profit R78,014, Net Profit -R4,200 (minus)
    3. Install cost of alarm link up R814.07 - losing R364.07 per installation
    4. Bad Debt - R20,240, (not all members pay via debit order)
    5. CNI Subsidises the patrol cars at R15,000 per month
    6. Actual annual loss is R109,200
    7. Members are paying for their neighbours security where their neighbours are not members of the KNI
    8. Danger of losing the second car unless we recruit at least a further 80 new members.
    9. Limited response to our pleas
  8. The quorum was asked to vote on the following motion:-
    1. 2nd car to only patrol for half a day until we get another 80 members (which half of the day is the most effective to be decided)
      1. This motion was unanimously rejected
  9. The following was raised:-
    1. The required additional funds to be raised by increasing all patrol memberships from R140.00 pm to R160.00.
      1. It was motioned and carried unanimously that should membership not increase by the required amount within two months from 18th February 2010, the monthly membership fees would increase to R160.00
  10. Other issues and suggestions raised
    1. Offer one months free service for new members
      1. Tried last year with little success
    2. Offer potential members the facility to cancel other security companies
      1. Currently in place by the KNI door to door recruitment team
    3. Once the correct % of the neighbourhood are members of the KNI an application will be made to the Municipality to have the cost of the KNI added to each households rates account
  11. The advisory committee was introduced as follows:-
    1. Geordie Hogarth - Chairman
    2. Simon New - Secretary
    3. Wessel Goosen - Treasurer
    4. Carl Delport - Events Manager assisted by Sean Rack
    5. Ken Hill - Police Liaisons
    6. Tony Cowell / Stephen Austen - Credit control
  12. Due to the significant drop in volunteers all sub committees within Kenrige, Kenever, De Bron and Durbell have been disbanded. As a result one advisory committee operates out of Kenridge Heights.
    1. Motion put forward to change the constitution from 6 advisory committee members to 10 in order for the new structure to become official
      1. Motion carried unanimously
  13. The election of the KNI advisory committee was tabled
    1. A motion to retain the entire committee in its existing format was received Seconded and carried without objection
    2. There were no resignations
  14. Future goals were discussed as:-
    1. Drive to increase the number KNI members, the community is needed to pull together in order to achieve this, each member to invite their neighbours to join.
    2. Drive to increase patrols and officers
    3. Drive to get the community to stand together Fund raising events
    4. KNI Wireless internet connectivity Cameras at entry and exit points
  15. The quorum was thanked for their attendance an the meeting closed at 8.20pm
